Please consider contributing to two important projects for bird conservation:

The BTO national Winter and Breeding Bird Atlas Survey 2007-2011 (fieldwork started on 1 November 2007)

This atlas has two components - Timed Tetrad Visits and Roving Records within each 10 km square.  The two components are equally valuable and volunteers are actively being sought to contribute to the survey.
If you wish to take part, please contact the BTO rep for the area you are interested in.

For the
for the western squares contact Mel ab Owain - for the eastern squares, contact Anne Brenchley

Within each 10 km square there are 25 tetrads as shown below:

The map, below, shows the tetrad SJ26N, which means that its western boundary is the easting 24 and the bottom boundary is northing 66, so the tetrad includes the 1 km squares: SJ2466, SJ2467, SJ2566 and SJ2567

The North Wales Breeding Bird Atlas (fieldwork starts on 1 April 2008)

This is a tetrad based bird distribution atlas that requires a comprehensive breeding bird species list for every tetrad in north Wales, with the highest proof of breeding evidence that is possible to identify. There are about 1600 tetrads that will require records, so the project will welcome all assistance that people are willing to offer. If you wish to survey any paricular tetrad or tetrads, please contact the organiser in our area, Anne Brenchley. To see the area that is included in north Wales, please see the North Wales Breeding Bird Atlas website (link above).

The fieldwork for this atlas is linked to that for the BTO Atlas building up lists of breeding species for each tetrad.
In the north Wales project there will be no Timed Tetrad Visits to assess relative abundance.
